On May 4, my memoir, On the Way to Casa Lotus, will be published. Writing a book by my fortieth birthday has been on my bucket list for a lifetime, and I’m incredibly excited and grateful that this vision has become a reality.
Like all of life’s most fulfilling experiences, nothing about it has been easy. But it has been worth it! To celebrate, I’ll be gathering with dear friends and family, including many who have helped and supported me in this writing journey, on the evening of May 4th in Austin. Our COVID face masks will not hide our joy at being together and marking this accomplishment. As I have learned, writing a book really does take a village. And I hope that even those who have not been an active part of this process will enjoy celebrating the universal spirit of accomplishment that helps each of us thrive.
Since every joyous occasion is always about so much more, I’ll also be celebrating a great source of inspiration to me: women-owned businesses. COVID has been hard on so many of them; to help boost them, I’ll be co-hosting the event Market Days at Easy Tiger—Austin’s favorite bake shop and beer garden—on Tuesday May 4 and Wednesday May 5. My co-host, Camila Alves McConaughey, founder of Women of Today, and I are excited for this chance to support women’s businesses.
Vendors will be selling their art, jewelry, handmade treasures, home décor novelties and much more. There’ll be a DJ, and trained alpacas to entertain! The event will be held outdoors with proper distancing and masks when needed.
These upcoming days will be filled with love and laughter, joy and gratitude. And spoiler alert: they will set the tone for more excitement to come, because even though I have now checked “writing a book by forty” off my bucket list, I plan to do it again!
